The life of a swimsuit and/or lingerie model isn't always easy. Many swimsuit lingerie models have struggled through a long period of unemployment before finally getting their first assignment. While there are some models who landed a job right away, most have not been so lucky. This is why you should always have a backup plan if becoming a model is your dream. Lots of women work day jobs before getting their first big break, the job that defines them as a model. To succeed in this business, you need determination, luck and great looks.
The image of what a model should look like has changed a great deal over the years. There have been periods where very thin models were in and periods where clients and directors wanted curvier women. Today you will see models of all sizes, skin tones and ages gracing the pages of magazines and catalogs. It is certainly much easier to get modeling work now than it was years ago because of the high level of diversity these days. The first step in becoming a model is to do an honest evaluation of your body and face. If you are not runway model material, don't fool yourself and say that you are because it will only lead to failure. Consider your height, weight and proportions. It is also a good idea to get an agent to represent you. There are all kinds of agencies, including those for petite models and plus size models. Working as a model doesn't always involve posing for pictures. Models may also work trade shows and even do film and television.
Swimsuit lingerie models can be petite, average or plus sized. It all depends on what the client is looking for. If this is the area of modeling that interests you, it is important to be in excellent shape and have lots of body confidence. Even if you are plus-sized, you can still be in good shape and make the most of what you've got. Models must work hard to stay in top form, which means getting lots of exercise, eating the right foods and being disciplined with skin care, sun exposure and lifestyle.
